Since the 1st of September 2009 - not that I am counting or anything but it is now a total of 126 days and 5 hours, I have been following the Donna Gates Body Ecology Diet. This diet or rather lifestyle is all about "how to restore and maintain the important "inner ecology" your body needs to function properly and to eliminate or control the symptoms that rob you of the joy of living". The diet focuses on certain key principles that involve correct food combining, eating only to 80% capacity - imagine that, eating alkalising foods, eating 80% of your plate as land or sea vegetables and eating loads of cultured vegetables. These are just a few of the things that come to mind as I am typing away so please have a look at the website http://bodyecology.com/index.php for a much more detailed outline.
It has been quite tough at times and somewhat (like incredibly) restricting when eating out but I have found it to be having some effect. I feel much more grounded, a bit more energy and some improvement in my skin. I am at a point where I am going to have to really get into the nitty gritty of the programme to really see the results I want to achieve. Donna does say that one of the principles of the diet is a step by step approach and I am trying to hone it as I go along and be patient with all the crazy detox stuff that comes up and makes you feel worst than before!
I had originally hoped to complete a minimum of 100 days and have realised that I might need to be on this for more like 365 days. I have also had to commit to the idea that exercise is my friend (hhhmmm) and will very much aid in my quest for better health. I try to exercise for at least 1 hour three times a week and more if I can squeeze it in...but then came Christmas and it has kind of all gone a bit belly up so I am reevaluating my food and getting back on task. To be fair I did really well over the holidays and really held my ground on the diet without deviating toward all the lovely food that I made for everyone else.
My main health concern is a yeast overgrowth that I have been trying to overcome for at least the last 10 years without exactly knowing what it was. I went to see a live blood analysis consultant in November of 2009 for the second time and really saw how much yeast was still floating around in my blood despite having stopped eating lots of sugars for over 2 months.
Beverly - the consultant said her main concern was she felt that I was not producing enough oxygen or utilising it correctly as she would have expected to see something quite different due to my clean diet. However the yeasties were there in full effect and I need to get rid of them. So now you can see why my 100 day plan has increased.
I think by being accountable to this blog and anybody reading it, it will help me keep on track and also I will be able to connect which food makes a positive or negative effect on how I feel. I will aim to keep this short and sweet (no pun intended) as I would also like to post the interesting info that I discover along the way.
Here is my update so far..
